Ramadan should be a time of peace, reflection, and provision. For many families in Kibigori Village, Kisumu County, it came with uncertainty over how they would manage iftar and sahoor. Through Blackstone’s Feed the Fasting campaign, food support reached homes in a remote community where hardship has become part of daily life.

Kibigori is an area where poverty, distance, and weak infrastructure shape everyday living. Roads are poor, health facilities are far away, and many families live without the security of a stable income. Many of the Muslims living here are from the Nubi ethnic group, a community that has faced long-standing social and economic marginalisation.

For most households, subsistence farming is the main means of survival. When the rains are delayed or do not come, crops suffer and food quickly becomes scarce. With few reliable ways to earn a living, many younger people leave the village in search of manual work in other towns, while older family members and those in poor health remain behind in very difficult conditions.

During this Ramadan delivery, the level of need was clear. Some of the beneficiaries were bedridden. Others were too weak to walk because of hunger and poor health. Our volunteers took food packs directly to their doorsteps, making sure support reached those who were unable to come out and collect it themselves.

For the families receiving this support, the timing could not have been more important. Many shared that they had been worried about what they would eat for iftar and sahoor. In Ramadan, that worry carries extra weight. Knowing there is food in the home, enough to break the fast and prepare for the next day, brings relief, dignity, and comfort to families already carrying so much.

Blackstone remains committed to reaching communities that are remote, underserved, and too often overlooked. In places like Kibigori, that means going where the need is greatest and making sure families are not left behind.
