Role Overview

We’re seeking a creative, self-driven Digital Media Coordinator to elevate our online presence and help tell the powerful stories behind our campaigns. You’ll work closely with our Director and volunteer teams to craft compelling content, manage social channels, and support digital outreach for upcoming events in Saudi Arabia, Bangladesh, and beyond.

Blackstone is a UK-registered charity dedicated to addressing poverty, education, improving access to healthcare, and supporting long-term community development. Operating in the UK and internationally, Blackstone works in partnership with local organisations and delivers zakat-compliant, values-led interventions rooted in dignity and sustainability.

This role sits within the Communications and Engagement Department, under the oversight of the CEO Dept, and contributes to cross-organisational strategic delivery through collaboration with the Executive Team. The department leads on public-facing communications, supporter engagement, campaign planning, volunteer mobilisation, brand management, and global partner content support, and volunteer engagement.

Purpose of the Role

The Communication & Engagement Officer supports the operational delivery of Blackstone’s communications, public engagement, and volunteering activity. This includes assisting with seasonal campaigns, producing content for cross-channel communications, and supporting the coordination of communications materials for internal and external use.

The postholder will work closely with the Communication & Engagement Manager to uphold brand consistency, maintain digital and print platforms, and provide practical support to both UK and international engagement efforts. From time to time, the Officer may be required to deputise for the Manager, contributing to departmental updates and coordinating campaign execution.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic Communications and Public Engagement

  • Support the delivery of the charity’s communications and engagement strategy, in alignment with campaign calendars, fundraising goals, and programme cycles.
  • Contribute to the development of campaign messaging and outreach materials across key audiences including the public, donors, volunteers, and partners.
  • Assist in the planning and delivery of seasonal campaigns (e.g. Ramadan, Zakat appeals, winter campaigns).
  • Ensure communications outputs are accurate, timely, and aligned with brand and safeguarding requirements.
  • Support updates to internal communications policies and content approval workflows.

 

Branding, Content, and Material Production

  • Produce and adapt branded communications materials including brochures, flyers, toolkits, donor packs, and event resources.
  • Support the creation of consistent social media, web, newsletter, and printed content.
  • Assist in coordinating external suppliers, including designers, freelancers, and printers, ensuring timely delivery and quality standards.
  • Ensure brand assets and templates are maintained and used appropriately across teams and partners.

 

Volunteer Engagement and Community Building

  • Support the development and distribution of volunteer-facing communications across onboarding, training, recognition, and retention.
  • Maintain content for volunteer guides, briefings, and feedback tools.
  • Assist with the coordination of community engagement activities and events.
  • Help to track volunteer engagement data and gather insights on supporter experience.

 

Global Partner Support

  • Assist in coordinating content and material requests from overseas delivery partners.
  • Prepare digital and physical content packages for field campaigns and public events.
  • Ensure all materials provided to global partners follow Blackstone’s branding and content guidance.
  • Support the management of multilingual content and translation coordination where required.

 

Digital and Platform Oversight

  • Maintain updates to the Blackstone website and social media platforms under the direction of the Manager.
  • Draft and schedule posts, newsletters, and digital updates using appropriate tools (e.g. Mailchimp, Canva, WordPress).
  • Monitor content performance using analytics dashboards and contribute to regular reporting.
  • Ensure all communications platforms are updated with relevant and timely content.

 

Strategy, Governance, and Internal Collaboration

  • Contribute to monthly reports and internal updates regarding campaign performance, engagement data, and supporter feedback.
  • Represent the department at internal meetings and events when required.
  • Support the delivery of crisis communications, data protection practices, and reputational risk procedures under supervision.
  • Deputise for the Manager when necessary and appropriate.

Person Specification

Experience and Knowledge (Essential)

  • At least 2 years’ experience in a communications, marketing, or public engagement role in the charity, public, or not-for-profit sector.
  • Strong understanding of public campaigns and audience-centred messaging.
  • Experience producing or supporting digital and print communications.
  • Familiarity with safeguarding and data protection in a public communications context.
  • Experience managing website content and/or social media channels.
  • Experience supporting volunteer engagement or community outreach activities.

 

Experience and Knowledge (Desirable)

  • Experience in a faith-based or international NGO environment.
  • Familiarity with Zakat or seasonal campaign periods such as Ramadan.
  • Skills in photography, video editing, or visual content development.
  • Knowledge of a second language relevant to Blackstone’s work (e.g. Bangla, Arabic, or Swahili).

 

Skills and Competencies

  • Strong writing, editing, and communication skills
  • Ability and confidence to write press releases, blog posts, news items, and organisational updates
  • Excellent command of English grammar and written structure
  • High attention to detail and commitment to brand and content accuracy
  • Confident user of digital tools including Mailchimp, Canva, WordPress, and Meta Business Suite
  • Working knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite, including:
  • Photoshop – for image editing and visual content
  • Illustrator – for vector graphics and digital branding assets
  • InDesign – for producing brochures, reports, and print layouts
  • Premiere Pro or Final Cut Pro – for editing campaign and programme-related videos
  • Capable of managing time effectively and coordinating small projects or outputs
  • Able to format content for both digital and print-ready use in line with brand guidelines
  • Adaptable team player with a proactive and solution-focused approach
  • Comfortable working across departments and with external stakeholders including designers, agencies, and global partners

Working Conditions and Compliance
